The project "Sengirės kinas", which combines cinema and environmental protection, invites you to a film screening at the Mažeikiai Henrikas Nagys Public Library. On October 13, at 3:00 p.m., the documentary film "Border Wolves" (dir. Martin Páv, Czech Republic, 79 min.) will be screened.
A story about wolves returning to the forests of the Broumov region of the Czech Republic after more than two hundred years, and the conflict caused by their return. After a long time, wolves here once again become an integral part of the landscape.
Some locals see the return of wolves as an opportunity to restore the natural balance of the ecosystem, while others see it as a threat to their livestock, farms and way of life. The film focuses not only on the wolf itself, but also on people's relationship with wildlife, our desire to control it and our differing understanding of how much space should be left for wild animals.
Director Martin Páv does not choose sides in the conflict, but becomes an observer at the center of an increasingly heated dispute. The return of the wolves here becomes a metaphor for a broader question: can we learn to live alongside wildlife and each other, even when our interests and fears differ?
The story about Czech wolves in Lithuania will be updated with a story by tracking expert Tomas Selickas about Lithuanian wolves, their ecology, our attitude towards them, and their place in our culture.
Tomas Selickas is a trail running course leader, nature guide and educator at Savas Gamtoje, and a member of the Baltic Wolf nature conservation association. Since 2012, he has been leading trail running classes and education programs that help people better understand wild animals, their environment, and the human relationship with nature.
