Initially, there was a chapel in Užlieknė, for which two annual indulgences were declared in 1784 (May 3, Discovery of the Holy Cross, and July 22, Mary Magdalene). In 1807, Canon Kasparas Bytautas (1769 - 1834-05-04/16) built a new chapel, and in 1857 it was rebuilt; it belonged to the Viekšniai parish.
In 1933 (according to other sources, in 1929), under the leadership of the Medžialenkė village builder P. Garalis, the chapel was erected on round foundations and moved to another location, approximately 300 m from its former location.
Užlikėna has long been famous for its feasts of Mary Magdalene. Crowds of pilgrims flocked to them even during the interwar period.
