Tactile exhibition of bookplates by C. Kontrim

Exhibitions

Adapted for visually impaired visitors.

Č. Kontrimas (1902–1989) – painter, teacher and watercolorist, who created landscapes, portraits, posters and works of art of other genres. His name is closely connected with the cultural life of Mažeikiai – while working here as an art teacher, he educated young creators and contributed to the formation of the city's artistic environment.
Ch. Kontrimas was interested in bookplates from his youth and created them. Bookplates were not only a form of creative expression for the artist, but also a meaningful gift. He often created and gave bookplates to people who interested and impressed him, as well as to cultural institutions. The bookplates he created reflect the artist's interest in people, books, culture, and visual symbolism.
This project was developed in collaboration with the Lithuanian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired.
The exhibition features original bookplates by C. Kontrimas and enlarged tactile images created based on them. They were made using 3D printing technology and adapted for visually impaired visitors – the exhibits can be explored not only with the eyes, but also by touch. The exhibition is complemented by a specially created audio guide.

The Mažeikiai Museum thanks LEMONA electronics, which printed all the tactile copies of Č. Kontrimas' bookplates for the exhibition.
