Sound walls

"Sound Walls" is a practical creative workshop on sound processing, intended for people interested in creating unconventional electronic music and sound art. During the creative workshop, lecturers Gintautas Rožė and Gediminas Jakubka will lead an interactive lecture related to the use of sound processing tools in creativity, and their live examples of personal creativity will allow participants to see the practical results and possibilities of the theoretically demonstrated methods.

The "Sound Walls" creative workshop consists of two parts: The first part will include an interactive lecture related to various digital and analog sound processing effects and processors. Their capabilities will be practically introduced using synthesizers, guitars and no-input techniques, and the practical application of the tools will be illustrated by examples of the project moderators' personal creations. During the workshop, the project moderators' personal creations, which include the aforementioned tools, will be presented in order to practically introduce the possibilities of sound art and electronic music.

The second part of the sessions will introduce the ambisonic surround sound system and various principles of music composition discovered by the lecturers through experimentation. This part is intended for everyone who is inclined to search for a unique, characteristic and unpredictable sound of instruments. This part will end with a joint musical improvisation together with the lecturers of the “Sound Wall” project and Paulius Burakas. After the improvisation, there will be a joint reflection, during which the project team and local performers will discuss the sound aesthetics heard during the performance, the peculiarities of surround sound and the possibilities of applying the system.

Lecturers:

Gintautas Rožė is a composer and performer who creates with music groups, works on interdisciplinary art projects and gives lectures related to the search for non-traditional methods of composition and performance. Gintautas has appeared at various music festivals and art biennials in Lithuania and abroad, and in 2020 the film “Spots and Scratches” (dir. Deimantas Narkevičius), for which Gintautas Rožė composed the music (together with Vladas Dieninis), was acquired by the largest European modern art museum “Centre Pompidou”. Gediminas Jakubka (Patricia Kokett) is a composer and performer who creates music for performances, films and various art projects. He is best known for the project “Patricia Kokett”, with which he appeared not only at Lithuanian but also foreign festivals. Gediminas Jakubka won the statuette for best composer at the National Lithuanian Film Awards (for the music for the film "Animus Animalis", together with Mindaugas Urbaitis), as well as the laureate of the film awards "Silver Crane" (for the music for the films "Akiplėša" and "Dulkės, bones and miracles").

Paulius Burakas is a professional sound director; co-author and performer of songs for the band “Ministry of Echology”. He was nominated for the “Silver Crane” awards for the film “Look at the Sound. Vilnius Sound System Culture”.
