Nordic Literature Week is a cultural project that has been running for three decades, with the aim of fostering the tradition of reading aloud and Nordic storytelling, promoting Nordic literature and contributing to the promotion of reading. The ambitious idea that originated in 1995 has become a traditional event, in which more and more people of all ages participate every year, not only in the Nordic and Baltic countries, but also in more distant lands.
The theme of Nordic Literature Week 2026 is "Democracy in the Nordic Countries." It invites us to talk about freedom, equality, respect for others, the right to have our own opinion, and the ability to listen to the person next to us.
