One of the most prominent jazz groups in the Baltic States, the Latvian Radio Big Band, led by artistic director, saxophonist and arranger Kārlis Vanagas, together with the exceptionally voiced vocalist Kristīne Prauliņa, will present a concert program at the festival dedicated to the work of the group's patron and artistic consultant, Maestro Raimonds Paul.
This year marks two very significant anniversaries in Latvian musical life – the 90th anniversary of the legendary composer and pianist Raimonds Pauls and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Latvian Radio Big Band.
The concert program will feature works from the project "Melns ar baltu" (Black and White) created especially for Kristīna Prauliņa, which subtly combines the memorable melodic language of Raimondas Pauls, the vocalist's exceptional voice, and the refined sound of the Latvian Radio Big Band. The songs of this project have been performed in famous concert halls in the United States and Europe.
The concert will also look back at the work of Phil Collins, a genius of popular music from the 1980s and 1990s, looking at it through the prism of big band. Big band occupied a special place in Phil Collins' creative activity - in the 1990s, the "Phil Collins Big Band" he formed united the most prominent performers and famous arrangers of the time. The concert will feature works by Phil Collins arranged especially for the Latvian Radio Big Band by keyboardist Tomas Mikāls and saxophonist Kārlis Vanags.
The festival audience will be introduced to two different musical spaces connected by a big band sound – the melodic and elegant creations of Raimondas Paulus and the energetic and easily recognizable music of Phil Collins.
This concert is a rare opportunity in Lithuania to hear one of the most prominent jazz groups in the Baltic States and exceptional interpretations of the works of Raimonds Paul and Phil Collins.
