Sculpture “Union-2014” or “Marriage”

All Fools’ Day in Mažeikiai was rainy and cold, but it still had a surprise. In the Old Town Park, at the intersection near the Family Health Centre, a strange, almost 2 meters long work appeared that day. These were two beautiful natural stones that lived separate lives and had their own long and different past until they entered the workshop of sculptor Paulius Daujotas in Mažeikiai. The metal parts of the truck were used not for their direct purpose and connected two low boulders. The necessary parts were found in the scrap metal of Šaja, UAB. The unusual work had a symbolic meaning, which was revealed by two names on the eastern side: “Union-2014” and “Marriage”.

It appeared to be not one-day April Fool’s joke. The place where this strange object appeared, was itself a symbolic union: a crossroad, a human flow towards the Old Town Park, the Museum and the Music School. This is how the unusual idea of decorating open spaces “Sculptures in Mažeikiai City” began. According to the artist Paulius Daujotas, various works come to the city and fill its spaces so that people can communicate with them and become friends. It is said that even a stone has a soul, you just need to learn how to understand it.
