Monument to Vladas Burba
Due to the efforts and care of Stefanija Žilinskaitė, the doctor of Mažeikiai Central Hospital, a monument to Vladas Burba, the initiator of construction of a new hospital, the famous surgeon and honoured doctor of Lithuania, was built in the Old Town. He came to Mažeikiai with his family on 21 December 1923 and worked here as a doctor for 42 years. At the end of 1938, due to the efforts of Vladas Burba, a modern hospital was built: it had 70 rooms, a spacious operating room, central heating, an electric elevator and sewerage. Vladas Burba was appointed the Head of Mažeikiai Hospital.
The monument to the doctor was unveiled on 19 July 1988 in the garden of Mažeikiai Central Hospital. Its author – sculptor from Klaipėda Klaudijus Stepanovas – also participated in the event.
