Monument to Juozas Vaičkus
In the autumn of 1983, a styled monument to Juozas Vaičkus, the pioneer of the cultural life of the Mažeikiai District, director, actor, creator of the Lithuanian professional theatre, was erected in Mažeikiai Old Town Park. The monument was created in two months by Jonas Meškelevičius (1950–2005) – the the sculptor, member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association and participant of the republican symposium held in Seda Town. A polished black granite sculpture weighing as much as 20 tons. It depicts Juozas Vaičkus as an actor wearing the stage costume of Duke Kęstutis (his favourite character). At the bottom of the back of this decorative sculpture, an emblem with the date “1983” is engraved.
On 30 September 1993, the monument was entered into the Register of Cultural Property of the Republic of Lithuania as a significant object of artistic and memorial value.
